The Rotary Institute for Children In Need of Special Care is an Institute started as a community service project of the Rotary Club of Trivandrum in the year 1964. It is registered under the Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 (vide No. 33 of1965, 5thAugust) and is managed by a committee appointed by the Rotary Club of Trivandrum.
It is a multi-focal treatment-cum-training center for the mentally challenged children to whom nature has been unkind. These children are given facilities for education through various accepted methods for imparting training to the mentally challenged children as per the guidelines issued by the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH).
We have completed 50 years of service in the field of teaching and rehabilitating the mentally challenged children. In the Academic Year 2015-2016 we have 172 children at our Institute, 54 students utilizing the Free Boarding facilities and 118 students are day scholars. Well trained special staffs are appointed to take care and guide the hostel students. All the children who stay in the hostel are provided with free boarding and lodging.
The Children of this Institute are grouped into Pre-primary (5 division), Primary I (6 division), Primary II (2 division), Secondary (2 division), Pre-vocational I (1 division), Prevocational II (1division) classes. Grouping of the students is on the basis of their chronological age and intellectual functioning level. We have Speech Therapy, Physio Therapy, Music therapy, Psycho-therapy, Computer Lab to develop various cognitive and psychomotor
The staff pattern of the institutes includes a Principal, Office Administrator, 19 Special Educators, Speech Therapist, Physio-Therapist, Psycho-therapist, a Craft Teacher a Music Teacher and 22 supporting staff like Matron, helpers etc., in hostel and school.
Many of our former students are placed in various institutions like, Trivandrum Club, Vijay Enterprises, Penpol etc.
