Geriatric Centre

The idea of a home for the senior citizen was in the mind of Rotarians for the Rotary Club of Trivandrum from the early 1975. It was discussed in the board of directors meeting and the general body. Finally Rtn. C Narayanan Nair was authorised to meet the members of the Royal family of Travancore to suggest that the club is interested to undertake a suitable project to commemorate the 60th birthday of H H Maharani Karthika Thirunal Lakshmi Bai which is on the month of November 1976. The club suggested starting a Geriatric centre of Poojapura next to the Rotary Club Clinic which was already in fall swing so that medical help is also available to the inmates

The suggestion was well accepted and approved by the Royal family and Rtn C. Narayanan Nair was requested to coordinate the project after registering under the Travancore cochin literacy, certificate and charitable societies act XII 1955. This was done immediately and

we received the certificate with registered no 83 of 1976 dated 27th day of March 1976.

The Rotary club negotiated with the Hindu Mahila Samajam and they where good enough to allow about 27 cent of land near the Rotary Clinic on lease for 50 years an amount of Rs.35000/- was paid to Hindu Mahila Samajam by the Kowdiar palace as donation for the social commitment and their generosity.
