The Rotary Club of Trivandrum has partnered with Rotary Club of Münster St. Mauritz and Rotary Club of Muhlheim Ruhr – Schloss Broich of District 1870 in Germany to support the Mary Nilayam Convent at Adimalathura for their project of education of the children in the coastal area to enhance the social , cultural and economic status of young girls and boys.
For this project Rtn. Franz Humpert of Rotary Club of Mulheim Ruhr Schloss Broich had collected € 4400 at the account of “The World of the open Heart”, the charity organization of the Rotary Clubs of the City of Münster, Germany. This organization is controlled by their internal revenue, which is requesting reports about the application in order to declare donations tax free.
Hence, PDG Dr.H.C. Fricke, as former German chair of the Indo-German Intercountry Committee and representative for the contacts with Rotarian friends in India of the RC Münster St. Mauritz, has requested Rotary Club of Trivandrum to supervise the management and the funds provided for the project. Rotary club of Trivandrum has constituted a committee consisting of President M.C. Jacob, President Elect Rtn. R.Kesavan, Treasurer Rtn. Chandran, , Prof. T.K. Thamby, Rtn. Ayyar and Rtn. Jacques Manshoven to supervise the project.
The German Rotarians and their wives, headed by PDG. Dr. H.C. Reinhard Fricke and Rtn. Franz Humpert, have visited the Convent together with the project committee members of our club on 23rd February 2015. Our German Rotary friends also attended our club meeting in the evening of the same day to come to know each other better and to foster further friendship.
With the help of our President, a separate bank account has been opened in the name of the Convent with SBT and the amount of RS. 307,900 got credited on 4.4.2015.
Further follow up and reporting will be done on 3 monthly basis.
The main aim of the project is :
- Conduct vacation classes and tuition Classes for the students who attend regular classes in the parish school from Std I to IV, in the Louise Memorial School from Std V to VII, and in Pulluvila Leo XIIIth school from VIII to X.
A number of students find it difficult to follow the teachers and grasp like the bright ones. Since the parents are illiterate at home there is no one to help them to do the home work and catch up. The convent sisters have taken the responsibility to help them in their studies by conducting extra classes.
- Run a nursery school for Children of Adimalathura and surrounding areas. The donationsare mainly for providing books, uniforms and for the salaries of the teachers.
- Support the health center of the village, which is open for 2 hours every evening and taken care of by the convent.
